Manitoba Organ and Tissue Donor Task Force

The province's non-partisan Manitoba Organ and Tissue Donation Task Force, chaired by Reg Helwer, MLA for Brandon West, is looking at ways to improve organ and tissue donation rates in Manitoba.  As invited stakeholders, Transplant Manitoba - Gift of Life's Dr. Peter Nickerson and Dr. Adrian Robertson presented information to the task force in the summer of 2018 highlighting the work they do with donor families, living donors and healthcare teams across the system. Other presenters included representatives from Canadian Blood Services, Tissue Bank Manitoba and The Kidney Foundation of Canada - Manitoba Branch. Feedback from the stakeholder meetings and written submissions from the public were requested and used to develop recommendations that were instrumental in creating a final report.  The HeartLinks Manitoba Board provided a written submission to the task force with recommendations for improving organ and tissue donor awareness in Manitoba.  Our submission is available to all HeartLinks members via email on request. Upon reviewing the task force reports recommendations, we feel very good about having taken the time and making the effort to influence the processes of organ donor awareness.  We are pleased to advise that the report has started to make headway on some of its recommendations.  Click here to read the report.
