Organ and tissue donation saves lives. By registering your intent using Manitoba's online organ and tissue donor registry www.signupforlife.ca information about your donation decision will be available and accessible should it ever be required. Since the launch of the registry in 2012, 68,348 Manitobans have registered and the number climbs every day. Nearly everyone has the potential to be an organ and tissue donor. One donor can save the life of eight people and enhance the quality of life for another 75 through the gift of tissue donation. Registration takes two minutes and three pieces of information; name, birthday and nine-digit health number. Between 2012 when the www.signupforlife.ca onine donor registry began and 2021, organ donations and transplantations increased by 23%, with 1,328 donations and 2,750 transplantations occurring in 2021. We as a group of grateful organ recipients, will continue in doing our part to spread organ and tissue donor awareness! HeartLinks wrapped up its first in person Annual AGM and Christmas get together in 2 years. Find out more details in our Events page. 2022 marked 10 years of online service for Manitoba's online organ and tissue donor registry www.signupforlife.ca To mark this milestone a goal was set to add 10,000 new registrations by the end of the year. Transplant Manitoba pushed hard to mark the 10K in 10 milestone however, COVID-19 affected registration traffic despite their best efforts. As of January 31, 2023, the registry holds the donation decisions of 64,618 Manitobans! Due to COVID-19 some events have been either cancelled or postponed. Please visit the events page for a complete list of cancellations due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We will keep you informed of any upcoming changes or cancellations to our normally scheduled upcoming events.

Nurses week 2024 is May 6-12th. This year's theme is: Changing Lives. Shaping Tomorrow. Visit our health and information news page to read a fantastic story published by St. Boniface Hospital Foundation (SBHF) featuring our very own transplant nurse Shari Barker. Nurses play a crucial role in directly impacting the lives of patients. Through their care, compassion and expertise they contribute to positive changes in the health and well being of their patients. HeartLinks Manitoba, along with SBHF celebrate Shari Barker's incredible nursing skills and most importantly, her care and compassion for each patient. Additionally, Shari was presented with a nursing award at the St. Boniface Hospital. Michael Helewa and Alan Scramstad were both in attendance for Shari's award presentation. We Love you Shari! It's that time of year to look back and wrap up 2023. HeartLinks was pleased to hold its first NOTDAW event, annual summer picnic and the annual AGM and Christmas get together since COVID-19 ended all in-person activities in 2020. We look forward to more in person activities. Dr. Bill Wall, retired surgeon and a children's book author, visited Winnipeg for an annual scientific meeting. During his visit, Dr. Wall made an appearance at a local elementary school to do a book reading from his book, "the ant who needed a transplant". Dr. Wall has been gifting his book to many school libraries throughout the province and his book will reach more than 100 school divisions across Canada by year end. The Kidney Paired Program hit a fantastic milestone of 1,000 transplants. Well Done! The signupforlife.ca organ and tissue donor registry logged 4,318 new registrations in 2023, bringing the total number of registrations since the launch of the registry in 2012 to 68,348! Manitoba's many community partners such as blood.ca and Transplant Manitoba-Gift of Life continue their work to raise organ and tissue donor awareness. Cold and flu season is upon us.
